Qualification -
Unit of Competency MEM21016 - Install and set up clocks
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to set up and assemble pendulum clocks on site. It also covers testing and making running adjustments to ensure correct function and performance and applies to any clock repairer or vendor required to install, set up and test pendulum clocks on site, including in domestic residences and commercial buildings. The most common application is usually a set-up and installation of new (long-case, wall or shelf) clocks or a set-up and installation after the return of serviced clocks to a customer's premises. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit weight: 2

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Prepare the clock includes the following:

separating and packaging of components

partial dismantling of clock (pendulum and weights)

secure gong rods/hammers

Clock handover includes the following:

informing customer of features and characteristics of clock

demonstrating winding and setting procedures for clock

informing customer of operation/switching of any automatic night silent/shut-off for chiming/striking mechanism

warranty information

recording date of installation

Tools and equipment include one (1) or more of the following:

hand tools

drills

spirit level

power tools

safety equipment, including personal protective equipment

cleaning equipment

Verify completeness includes the following:

all components checked against packing slip/component list

case parts, pendulum, weights and key

striking and chiming rods, bells or tubes

Appropriate methods and fixings include one (1) or more of the following:

suitable location/position identified:

level

stable

drafts

people traffic

wedges

floor and wall fixings

Clock functions include one (1) or more of the following:

pendulum in-beat

striking and chiming

winding and setting

calendar-moon phase

In-beat assessment includes the following:

clock secure and level position

pendulum assembly complete and correctly attached

listen for evidence of even tick

In-beat adjustment method includes one (1) or more of the following:

friction crutch

cam wheel

bending crutch

automatic beat adjuster

Rate adjustments include one (1) or more of the following:

effect of changing pendulum length

(shortening = gain, lengthening = loss)

methods of adjusting bob position

French devices

weight trays

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
